We have had an exciting six months with a new UK team in place, dedicated to getting Suubi Medical Centre back on its feet.

Prior to this, the Centre had been left to the responsibility of the villages that it serves, but after finding the Centre was in a state of disrepair, without the necessary staff, medications and equipment to run efficiently, the UK team stepped back in and is now running the Medical Centre again.

The UK team have been engaged in local Diversity Festivals and craft events, talking about the Centre and fundraising, highlighting what is happening and what we need and has regular updates on the fb page. The website is being updated too and we have run a 12 weeks ‘til Christmas campaign too.

The building itself was in a very poor state of repair…

The building itself was in a very poor state of repair…

Indoors, the floors and walls have all been repaired and  repainted…

Outside the windows and doors have been repaired and the building worked fixed and repainted…

The toilet block was completely unusable … but is now repaired.

The furniture, medicines and equipment were sorted for re-use …

Essential medicines, equipment and furniture have been replaced …

We have new staff (a nurse, midwife, lab technician, Clinical Officer, an administrator, a cleaner and our volunteer still who is soon to train in nursing)  ….

… and the best news of all is that we have just had our first baby born (22.12.19) since reopening!

We couldn’t have done any of this without your help. Thank you so much from all the UK team and the people of Iganga at Suubi Medical Centre.

Electricity for Suubi

Those who have followed us over the years will have seen our struggle to connect Suubi Medical centre to the hydro electricity. Having power would make a difference because we would be able to use electric equipment and even carry out basic surgical operations and use a dental chair and things like that

We want to give this one last push. Our total bill is £2900 but we have £1700 so we need to raise £1200 to make it happen. We need some monentum to push this so that we end the 5 year long wait for electricity. Can you help with this drive?
